A conference reviewing the supporting programmes for Ho Chi Minh City’s poor in 2014 and plans for 2015 was held in the southern metropolis on April 14.
Addressing the event, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s HCM City chapter , Vo Thi Dung, said about 162 billion VND (7.7 million USD) was raised from the public in 2014 to aid local impoverished people.
In 2015, the city will strive to mobilise over 100 billion VND (4.7 million USD) to build 677 social houses, fix 1,225 damaged houses, and grant scholarships for 21,362 disadvantaged students.
The city aims to reduce the impoverished household rate to under one percent and households living near the poverty line to below two percent of the city’s total population.-VNA
