HCM City (VNA) – The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City on December 20 received nearly 56 billion VND (2.44 million USD) presented to the city’s ‘For the Poor’ fund.

The fund aims to ease difficulties facing the disadvantaged in the city ahead of the 2022 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.

To Thi Bich Chau, Chairwoman of the committee, affirmed that the Party and State always consider poverty reduction as a major, important, and consistent task during the national construction and development.

Donations to the fund reflect national solidarity and joint efforts in improving local people’s lives amid the complexities brought by COVID-19, thereby contributing to the national target programme on sustainable poverty reduction, she added.

This year, the fund has raised more than 156 billion VND. Local authorities have built and repaired houses for the beneficiaries, presented gift packages to 156 Heroic Mothers, wounded soldiers and the poor./.
