HCM City (VNA) – Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thu has urged the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) to share its experience in managing and organising sport events at regional, continental and international levels.
At a reception for Sieh Kok Chi, Assistant Secretary General of the OCM in HCM City on May 23, Thu said Malaysia has the most developing sport movements in Southeast Asia.
The country successfully hosted Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) for six times, the Commonwealth Games and other regional, continental and international tournaments, she said.
Meanwhile, HCM City is expected to host the 31st SEA Games in 2021 once approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Thu said.
In reply, Kok Chi said to prepare for the 31st SEA Games, HCM City should build new stadiums and facilities for water and new sports.
HCM City has infrastructure and human resources suitable for hosting SEA Games, he said, suggesting the southern metropolis train athletes, coaches, referees and volunteers who also should be equipped with foreign language skills.
The OCM will assist the city in preparations and share its experiences in managing and organizing SEA Games, he affirmed.
Kok Chi said if HCM City is allowed to organise the 31st SEA Games, the city will gain experiences and material facilities for bigger sport events, while developing sport human resources for the locality itself and Vietnam at large.-VNA
