A round table aiming to put forward recommendations for the planning of urban areas to ensure sustainable development in Ho Chi Minh City started in the country’s largest city on July 12.
The three-day round table, entitled “Urban planning and development in response to climate change”, was held by the municipal People’s Committee and the Pacific Rim Council on Urban Development.
Participants discussed in detail a master plan to develop a new urban area near Hiep Phuoc port and measures to deal with possible floods in the area as well as in District 6.
According to scholars, the city will be one of 10 localities under the most serious threat of impacts from climate change.
The city has joined other big cities in the world to cope with climate change and it recently worked with Rotterdam city and the Netherlands’ Cooperation Programme on Water and Climate (CPWC) to successfully host a seminar on climate change adaptation./.
