HCM City (VNA) – The Ho Chi Minh City Police debuted and put into operation a specialised crime fighting unit in the city.
The unit under the Police Department of Criminal Investigation in Social Order (PC45) is responsible for ensuring security and order in five southern districts - District 7, District 8, Binh Tan, Binh Chanh and Nha Be.
The unit is expected to be an “iron fist” to criminals, said Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Dinh La Thang at the debut ceremony.
He stressed the unit’s members will promote tradition, increase sense of responsibility and improve their skills to combat criminals in a flexible manner, meeting expectation of the city’s authorities and people.
The unit and PC45 need to coordinate with relevant forces to map out detailed tasks and take breakthrough measures in preventing crime in the assigned areas, said Head of the HCM City Police Le Dong Phong.
The unit will be considered to multiply if their activities are effective after one year of pilot operation.
The number of criminal cases in Ho Chi Minh City in 2016 dropped by 13.31 percent compared to the previous year.-VNA
