Heavy rains forecast for many areas nationwide

Rains ranging from moderate to heavy are expected to hit various regions nationwide on September 22 and 23, according to the National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting (NCHMF).

Hanoi (VNA) – Rains ranging from moderate toheavy are expected to hit various regions nationwide onSeptember 22 and 23, according to the National Centre for HydrometeorologicalForecasting (NCHMF).

The northern delta and north-central region willhave moderate and heavy rains and thunderstorms in the two days, with localrainfalls projected at 70-150mm and even over 200mm in some places. Other areasin the north are to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms.

On September 22, the central, south-central, CentralHighlands and southern regions will also see showers and thunderstorms, with sporadic  heavyrains and rainfalls expected to be between 20 and 40mm, sometimesover 100mm. From the afternoon of September 22 to September 23, the areas fromQuang Binh to Thua Thien-Hue provinces in the central region will have moderateand heavy rains with a rainfall of 40-70mm, even more than 100mm in some places.

The centre warned that rains will continue until September 24 inthe northern delta, September 25 in areas from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue, andmany more days in areas from Da Nang to Binh Thuan, the Central Highlands, andthe southern region.

Also on September 22, showers and thunderstorms with a possibilityof tornadoes and strong gusts of Level 7-8 are forecast for the Gulf of Tonkin,the middle and south of the East Sea (including the waters of the Truong Saarchipelago), the waters from Quang Tri to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to Kien Giang, andthe Gulf of Thailand./.

Government adopts action programme on environmental protection, climate resilience

The programme aims to translate the Party's orientations into concrete actions while strengthening environmental governance, enhancing climate resilience, and promoting a green, circular and low-carbon economy. It will serve as the basis for ministries, sectors and localities to formulate implementation plans for the 2026–2030 period, with a vision to 2045.

Lam Dong steps up efforts to retain UNESCO global geopark status

Covering nearly 4,760 square kilometres across 22 communes and wards in western Lam Dong (equivalent to 73.1% of the former Dak Nong province's natural area), the geopark was shaped by millions of years of geological activity and successive volcanic eruptions.

Rare primate handed over to Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park

Criminal proceedings launched against case of illegal keeping, trading of 104 wild animals

They recorded a total of 104 wild animals, comprising 92 African spurred tortoises (Geochelone sulcata) of various sizes, six Red Lories (Eos rubra) and six Green-cheeked Parakeets (Pyrrhura molinae). Authorities said the animals are subject to management under Vietnam's forestry legal regulations and are listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
