The construction of the first SOS Children’s Village in the northern province of Thai Binh, the 16th of its kind in Vietnam, began on May 21.
The village covers an area of 25,000 square metres in Hoang Dieu ward, Thai Binh city.
In the first period, 14 houses, a 6-classroom nursery school and other facilities will be built with 2.5 million USD funded by SOS Children’s Villages International and PetroVietnam Drilling and Well Services Corporation.
A youth dormitory and houses for retired SOS mothers will be constructed during the project’s second period.
At present, there are about 20,000 disadvantaged children in Thai Binh, including more than 8,600 orphans. When operational, the village will give them stability and opportunities to study and develop.
