Hanoi (VNA) – The hosting of the Asian Associations of Supreme Audit Institutions(ASOSAI)’s 14th Assembly shows the ASOSAI community’s high valuation of theState Audit of Vietnam (SAV), while contributing to enhancing the prestige ofVietnam’s external activities, including those of the National Assembly, said NAVice Chairman Phung Quoc Hien.

In an interview withthe Vietnam News Agency ahead of the event, Hien, who is also head of the steeringcommittee for organising the 14th Assembly of the ASOSAI, said that one of theprioritised tasks of the SAV is to develop the existing bilateral andmultilateral as well as traditional partnerships with members of the ASOSAI andthe International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).

During its 24 years ofdevelopment, the SAV has made positive contributions to the operation of theAsia-Pacific audit sector, especially the growth of the ASOSAI community, hesaid.

Along with thecomprehensive reform process, Vietnam has strengthened its intensive internationalintegration and contributed to multilateral mechanisms.

As a responsible memberof regional and global cooperation mechanisms, Vietnam has hosted many major internationalevents, including the 132nd Assembly of the International Parliamentary Union(IPU) in 2015, the APEC Leaders’ Week in 2017, the 26th meeting of the Asia-PacificParliamentary Forum (APPF 26) and the World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN)in 2018.

The success of theevents has affirmed the new role and position of Vietnam in the world arena, stated Hien.

He held that external activitiesof the SAV both help enhance the position of Vietnam in foreign relations, and createopportunities for the agency to learn experience from other countries in theworld.

Mentioning the themeof the 14th Assembly of the ASOSAI, Hien said that the environment matter is amongbig obstacles for the development of countries.

Climate change and therapid growth of economies have brought about issues related to pollution, waste, and natural resources. If not being solved adequately, the development ofcountries, including Vietnam, will face great difficulties. Therefore, choosingthe theme “Environmental Auditing for Sustainable Development” is a properchoice, he said.

Regarding thesignificance of the event’s hosting to Vietnam, the NA Vice Chairman said thatthis is an important political-diplomatic and professional cooperation event, reflecting the growth of the SAV which is much younger compared to that inother countries in the region as well as in the world.

The event is a goodchance for the SAV to absorb international knowledge, standards and experiencesas well as make full use of resources from the ASOSAI and its members toenhance its capacity for further development.

The SAV will becomethe ASOSAI Chair for the 2018-2024 tenure and a member of its Governing Boardin the 2015-2024 period. The hosting of the 14th Assembly will be an opportunityfor the SAV to affirm its role and position, while winning trust from ASOSAImembers and international organisation in its capacity to host a largeinternational event, he said.

Hien added that theASOSAI 14 is also a chance for the SAV to continue reforming and completingitself in all fields.

During the event, anumber of important documents are expected to be issued, including effectivepolicies, solutions and tools to deal with various issues.

As the SAV’s legalstatus has been stated in the Constitution, the event will help improve therole of the SAV in bettering the efficiency of public finance and asset, thusbuilding a transparent and strong finance sector, stated Hien.

The SAV became amember of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions(INTOSAI) in 1996, and joined the Asian Organisation of Supreme AuditInstitutions (ASOSAI) in 1997.

The SAV will hostthe 14th Assembly of ASOSAI slated for September 19-22 in Hanoi.
