Hue to host 5th Traditional Craft Festival

The fifth Traditional Craft Festival will be held in central Hue city from April 27 to May 1, aiming at promoting the development of traditional crafts and craft villages as well as the tourism industry.

According to Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee PhanTrong Vinh, the festival, themed “The Quintessence of VietnameseCrafts”, is expected to see the participation of craftsmen fromprovinces nationwide as well as foreign artisans.

A newspecial feature in this festival will be a display entitled “Heritageon the Move” as part of the Mestamorphoses exhibition from France ,introducing five exceptional French textile techniques, he said.

Taking place along the banks of Huong River , the festival willfeature a wide range of activities, including the “Magic” fashion showby Vietnamese designer Minh Hanh in collaboration with her partners fromFrance , the Philippines and Hong Kong ; an outdoor exhibition ofbamboo works; and a display of products made by 20 artisans, creatorsand designers.

In addition, a variety of antique exhibitions,community activities, street art, installations, Hue cuisine andfolk games will be held to show visitors the natural beauty andhospitality of local people.

On this occasion, visitors willhave a chance to meet artisans from craft villages in Hue and otherlocalities nationwide.

Within the festival’s framework, aworkshop themed “Craft Villages with Tourism Industry – Potentials andBottlenecks” will be organised to evaluate their potential, currentstatus, bottlenecks and the development prospects of craft villages inthe ancient capital city of Hue.

The festival will linktrade villages’ production with cultural, tourism and festive activitiesto create jobs and increase incomes for rural labourers, Vinh said.-VNA
