Ha Giang (VNA) – A conference was held in the northern border province of Ha Giang on March 8 to launch a human trafficking prevention and control project.

Director of the provincial Department of External Relations Ly Thi Lan said the project is funded by the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation (BDCF) and carried out from January 2019 to December 2023, mostly in Meo Vac, Quan Ba and other districts in the locality.

The project, costing 5 billion VND (217,000 USD) from 2019-2020, has three components of law abidance, reintegration to community for victims of human trafficking, and capacity building for human trafficking prevention.

It is built on the basis of the success of “Safe and Healthy” project starting in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue in 2006 and the northwestern province of Dien Bien in 2011.

Accordingly, the BDCF will share expertise with local agencies in establishing an eco-system in the fight against human trafficking, thus mitigating the number of victims sold to China for sex purposes.

The scheme will also support women and children and those at high risk of human trafficking.

A memorandum of understanding on carrying out the project was also signed between the provincial People’s Committee and the BDCF.-VNA
