Tien Giang (VNA) – Agriculture is a key field of cooperationbetween India and Vietnam, especially the Mekong Delta region - the largestgranary in the country, an official has said.
Speaking at a workshop held in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang onNovember 28, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Parvathaneni Harish said farm produceand processed food continue to account for a large proportion in bilateraltrade.
Indian companies have poured a remarkable amount of investment in Vietnam inrecent years, focusing on key commodities such as sugar, tea, coffee, pepper,seeds, and agricultural equipment, he said.
The ambassador suggested the two nations focus cooperation on building hi-techagriculture, promoting trade in fruits, vegetables and aquatic products,developing harvest and post-harvest technologies, training high-quality humanresources for agriculture, and studying varieties and advanced cultivationtechniques.
Vo Hung Dung, Director of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI)’sBranch in Can Tho city, said the Mekong Delta is the country’s largest agriculturalproduction region which also has a favourable business environment.
The Mekong Delta also has good conditions to further promote internationalintegration and cooperation, he said, adding that India is one of the mostimportant partners of the region.
Chairman of the provincial Tien Giang People’s Committee Le Van Huong said theoutcomes of the workshop will help the region foster the development of sustainableagriculture, shifting from quantity to quality and from chemical agriculture toorganic and hi-tech agriculture.-VNA
