The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on September 23 placed in orbit seven satellites--its own Oceansat-2—and six for other nations--within a span of 20 minutes.

At the end of the 51-hour countdown, the 44.4 metre tall four-stage PSLV-C14 blasted off from the launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre with ignition of the core first stage, putting the satellites in orbit one after another, the Press Trust of India (PTI) said.

Oceansat-2, the country's 16th remote sensing satellite, will identify potential fishing zones, maritime forecasting and conduct coastal zone studies, in addition to providing input on weather forecasting and climate studies.

Of the six foreign satellites, four are from Germany and one each from Switzerland and Turkey./.
