Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo on November 1 highlighted the importance to synchronise policies related to climate change between developed and developing countries. “All of us, including developed countries, must show more concrete steps in terms of climate control, especially in terms of funding support for developing countries in making energy transitions from fossil fuels to renewable energy,” Widodo told a CEOs Forum meeting in Glasgow, Scotland.
He expects adaptation funding of 100 billion USD from developed countries to be met immediately in order to accelerate efforts to deal with climate change.
According to him, in recent years, Indonesia has shown concrete steps in terms of climate control. The country’s current deforestation rate is the lowest for 20 years, the rate of forest fires is reduced by 82 percent. Indonesia will also restore 64 thousand hectares of mangrove land. This is very important because mangroves store 3-4 times more carbon than peatlands/.
