Jakarta (VNA) Indonesia has set a target to build a nuclear power plant by 2039 to achieve net zero emissions and increase national energy security, according to the country's Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Bapeten).

The country has to date drafted the regulations on nuclear infrastructure safety, from preparing the location for the plant to formulating the trial operation, in which the location will not be in earthquake-prone areas, said Bapeten's Director for Nuclear Installation and Material Control Haendra Subekti.

Bapeten will ensure that the construction of the plant aligns with the specified design.

After the construction is completed, there will be trial operation to see its performance until it operates as expected, he added./.
