Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia will prioritise four areas in its foreign policy in 2016, including ensuring the country’s sovereignty, strengthening citizenship protection, bolstering economic diplomacy and intensifying its position in international forums.

The initiative was heard at a New Year international press conference on revising diplomatic activities in 2015 and revealing key plans for 2016 which opened in Jakarta on January 7.

The event saw the participation of former Indonesian Foreign Ministers and other ambassadors to the country.

Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi highlighted the diplomatic achievements of the government this past year, including maintaining the nation’s sovereignty and improving the country’s economic diplomatic relations and its role in the region and in the international arena.

She stressed 2015 was a hustled year for diplomatic activities when the country hosted hundreds of bilateral and international meetings, concluding in158 agreements with partner countries. The successful hosting of the Asian-African Summit in 2015 has further strengthened Indonesia’s position internationally.-VNA
