Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia announced that it has completed its target of establishing 20 million hectares of ocean for conservation, two years ahead of schedule.

President Joko Widodo delivered the announcement in his opening speech at the fifth Our Ocean Conference (OOC) in Bali on October 29 and 30.

He elaborated that, starting from an OOC agreement related to marine preservation, the achievement will realise Indonesia’s vision as a global maritime axis.

The leader added that his Government will take small steps and major actions on an international scale in a bid to make the vision a reality.

The OOC 2018, taking place for the first time in Asia under the theme of “Our Ocean, Our Legacy”, is focused on generating commitments and taking actions to maintain the sustainability of oceans. –VNA
