Indonesia: Sinabung volcano erupts

The Sinabung volcano in Indonesia's North Sumatra province erupted on December 18, spewing columns of smoke and ash clouds.

Jakarta (VNA) - The Sinabung volcano in Indonesia's North Sumatra province erupted on December 18, spewing columns of smoke and ash clouds.

According to the Sinabung volcano monitoring post, the latest eruption took place on 13:02 (local time) along with 303 seconds of tremors around the area.

Hot clouds were seen rising 2,500 metres to the east-southeast and 3,500 metres to the south. It was difficult to see the eruption as the volcano peak was engulfed by thick haze.

Indonesian authorities declared the red alert around the volcano, while warning more possible eruptions in the coming days.

The last eruption prior to the December 18 eruption took place on November 29, blasted column of volcanic ashes and hot clouds.

Over 2,000 people were displaced from the ongoing Sinabung volcanic activities.-VNA
