Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni announced on October 21 that President Prabowo Subianto remains committed to advancing the development of the new capital, Nusantara (IKN), located in East Kalimantan province.

Speaking to the press after the inauguration ceremony at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Minister Raja emphasised that President Prabowo is firmly dedicated to the IKN project. He reiterated multiple times his intention to carry on and complete the construction of the new city.

Nusantara is a major project aimed at relocating Indonesia’s capital from Jakarta. It is regarded as a significant legacy of former President Joko Widodo. Previously, President Prabowo had repeatedly expressed his determination to continue and, if possible, finish building the new capital.

Former President Joko Widodo was known for his ambitious infrastructure projects, initiating 521 development initiatives during his 10-year tenure. His vision included the 30 billion USD plan to move Indonesia’s capital from Jakarta to Nusantara, a move designed to alleviate the burden on the current capital, which is facing the fastest sinking rate in the world./.
