An international forum titled “Building brand names for university education: Realities and Experiences” was held in the southern province of Khanh Hoa on August 10-11.

At the forum, organised by Vietnam-based SEAMEO, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the Nha Trang University, around 30 reports were presented by representatives from Vietnam, the Southeast Asian region and the world.

The reports focused on the meaning of brand names for university education, the assurance and accreditation of education quality, and international experiences on building brand names.

Teresita G. Inciong, Ph.D., Assistant to the Philippine Education Minister, said that quality verification is a means to spread brand names.

Alexande Freire, Ph.D., from Switzerland, added that Southeast Asia might base their system on his country’s quality assurance and accreditation system.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thien Nhan underscored that Vietnamese universities should pay more attention to brand names.

In order to build brand names, the universities should fully disclose their finances, facilities, and staff qualifications, the minister added./.
