A seminar titled “Digitisation of Archival Records-Sharing Experience” opened in Hanoi on Oct. 1.
At the opening of the two-day seminar, coinciding with the 17th meeting of the Southeast Asian Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (SARBICA)’s executive board, Minister of Home Affairs Tran Van Tuan emphasised the importance of the digitisation of archival records, especially in the era of IT development and the period of international integration.
Vietnam’s hosting of the seminar and SARBICA’s executive board meeting demonstrates the valuable contributions of the country’s archive sector to the international body, he said.
This is also a chance for Vietnamese archivists learn about others’ experiences in the digitisation of records and approaches to issues relating to the update of archives, the Minister added.
According to Vu Thi Minh Huong, Head of the State Records Management and Archives Department of Vietnam, the seminar, which attracted 182 delegates from SARBICA members as well as speakers from the US and France, will adopt a resolution on records digitisation.
The 17th meeting of SARBICA’s executive board will review the operations of 10 member countries and discuss the branch’s action plan in the coming time.
Established in 1968, SARBICA gathers 10 members-- Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam./.
