Int’l webinar talks criminal justice for juveniles
Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) – The Ho Chi Minh City University of Law (HCMUL) held an
international webinar on criminal justice for juveniles on October 13.
In his opening speech, HCMUL
Acting Rector Associate Professor Tran Hoang Hai said learning about
international principles and standards as well as countries’ experience in
criminal justice for juveniles in combination with considering political,
socio-economic and cultural characteristics will contribute to offering more
feasible solutions to educating juveniles into more socially responsible
persons.
Asso. Prof. Trinh Tien
Viet, Vice Dean of the Law Faculty at the Vietnam National University – Hanoi suggested
authorities continue fine-tuning criminal policies and regulations in the Penal
Code 2015 on criminal responsibility for those aged below 18 and punishments on
them.
He proposed soon establishing
units in charge of criminal cases involving those aged below 18 in
investigation agencies and People’s Procuracies, improving professional
expertise of judges in the trial of juveniles, and enhancing supervision over
the enforcement of criminal laws and punishments on them.
Participants at the
event discussed judicial issues for juveniles and experience from India and
Canada, as well as the organisation of criminal judicial system for juveniles./.
