Hanoi (VNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Thai counterpart Don Pramudwinai underlined their countries' resolve to broaden cooperation in economy, trade, and finance.

Speaking at a reception for the Thai minister on January 25 in Tehran, Zarif said that the two countries' state-owned and private sectors have abundant capacities for cooperation within the framework of the Iran-Thailand Joint Economic Commission (TIJEC), creating great opportunities for the two countries in industry and trade.

He welcomed his Thai counterpart’s visit to Tehran as a positive step in the right direction that could help deepen bilateral ties in different economic fields.

He said that Iran 's market can play the role of a hub in transit for Thailand ’s regional trade transactions as well as agricultural-fishery exports.

Besides, Tehran is also prepared to cooperate with Thailand in security and counter-terrorism efforts, he added.

For his part, Pramudwinai appreciated the achievements of TIJEC in fostering mutual cooperation, expressing his hope that the economic cooperation could expand further.

Earlier, the two sides negotiated to finance joint petrochemical projects.

Currently, Iran owns only a 99-million-USD share of Thailand 's market worth 200 billion USD.-VNA
