Irish philanthropist awarded insignia

Irishman Prof. William Walmsley Hall, Director of the US organisation, The Atlantic Philanthropies (AP), has been presented with an insignia “For Peace and Friendship among Nations.”

Theaward is in recognition of his positive contributions to the Vietnamesehealth and education system as well as the country’s poverty reduction.

Addressing the ceremony in Hanoi on July 19, President ofthe Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations Vu Xuan Hong spoke highlyof the activities of the AP and Prof. Hall in particular.

Theinsignia was given to highlight Prof. Hall’s contributions to boostingfriendship and all-faceted cooperation in all fields between Vietnam andother countries, including Ireland, he added.

For his part, Prof. Hall expressed his honour to receive the award, saying that he considers Vietnam as his second home.

He pledged to further contribute to the development of the Vietnamesehealth and education systems as well as the country’s povertyreduction.-VNA

Bac Giang to eliminate substandard houses by November

Vietnamese, Chinese cities to build smart border gate pair

They also consented to promote the development of a cross-border economic cooperation zone through sectoral cooperation at Hai Yen industrial park, Van Ninh international port in Mong Cai; a cross-border e-commerce industrial park; and transport connectivity projects between the two cities including the international railway line from Mong Cai to Dongxing, Bac Luan III bridge, and an auxiliary rough steel bridge.

A fisherman from central Quang Ngai province was given emergency treatment for severe respiratory distress at the Song Tu Tay island infirmary in the island district of Truong Sa, the south central coastal province of Khanh Hoa on March 11, after falling ill while fishing at sea.

Hanoi court begins trial for deadly apartment fire tragedy

The Hanoi People's Court opened the first-instance trial on March 10, bringing eight defendants to justice over the deadly fire that engulfed a nine-story mini apartment building on Khuong Ha street, Khuong Dinh ward, Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi on September 12, 2023, claiming 56 lives and leaving 44 others injured.
