More than 754,200 USD will be provided for a project to improve maternal and infant health in the northwestern mountainous Dien Bien province by World Vision Japan, a Japanese Non-governmental Organisation.

The signing of the non-refundable aid package took place in Hanoi on November 30.

The project will upgrade medical centre infrastructure in the province and assist local people in Muong Cha and Tuan Giao districts to gain access to maternal and infant healthcare services.

Many medical centres in Dien Bien province fail to meet national standards. The majority of local people belong to ethnic minority groups and face difficulties accessing free healthcare services due to linguistic and cultural barriers.

At the signing ceremony, Japanese Envoy to Vietnam Hideo Suzuki affirmed that his country will continue to support maternal and infant healthcare in Vietnam.-VNA
