Can Tho (VNA) – The Okayama Institute of Languages wants to join hands with Can Tho city’s education sector to carry out the specialised Japanese language training programme at local colleges and universities.
At a working session with the city People’s Committee on March 25, Director of the institute Hiroko Katayama said that Can Tho city, an economic hub in the Mekong Delta region, has welcomed a strong investment wave from Japan, the Republic of Korea, India and the US, among others, requiring local education establishments to move towards international standardised training programmes to improve human resources quality.
She said that language is a decisive factor in the context of global integration as it helps labourers work well in foreign companies.
The collaboration is part of activities to realise the cooperation deal between the Okayama city and Can Tho city signed in October 2017, she added.
According to the plan, students from the Can Tho University, Can Tho University of Engineering and Technology and Can Tho College will join the training programme in two years at the Okayama Institute of Languages with a tuition fee of 600,000 JPY (5,448 USD) per year.
The students will receive a financial support of 48,000 JPY (436 USD) a month for the first year. Anyone with excellent academic performance will receive a maximum scholarship of 300,000 JPY (2,724 USD) a year.
Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Vo Thanh Thong lauded the Japanese institute’s proposal, stressing that the city will create favourable conditions for the institute as well as other foreign education establishments to implement the cooperation programmes in the locality.-VNA
