The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang has decided to conduct a project aiming at better care for disadvantaged children in the locality in the period of 2014-2020.

The project will be implemented with a total budget of over 20 billion VND (940,000 USD), focusing on orphans, children living with HIV/AIDS, children victims of A gent Orange/Dioxin and natural disasters, and disabled children.

Through the project, authorities hope to help 95 percent of local disadvantaged children receive appropriate social assistance and services, and improve the quality of the care for them in sponsoring centres.

In order to carry out effectively the project, they will pay attention to raising public awareness of child care, and building models for looking after children with serious disabilities.

In additions, vocational training courses will also be organised along with upgrading material facilities of sponsoring centres to improve their capacity in protecting, caring for and educating children.

The project is expected to help disadvantaged children integrate themselves into the community, while improving t heir material and spiritual lives.-VNA
