Lai Chau city thrives after 20 years of establishment

A ceremony was held on October 26 to mark 20 years of the establishment of Lai Chau city’s Party Organisation (October 26, 2004 - 2024), and Lai Chau township (now Lai Chau city) (October 10, 2004 - 2024) of the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau.

Lai Chau (VNA) – A ceremony was held on October 26 to mark 20 years of the establishment of Lai Chau city’s Party Organisation (October 26, 2004 - 2024), and Lai Chau township (now Lai Chau city) (October 10, 2004 - 2024) of the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau.

Alternate member of the Party Central Committee and Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Vu Manh Ha praised and congratulated the significant achievements gained by the Party organisation, administration, and people of Lai Chau city over the past two decades.

He urged them to continue innovating and enhancing the quality of disseminating and promoting the Party's guidelines, and the State’s policies and laws; focus on upholding the city’s strategic position, effectively exploiting its potential and strengths, and mobilising and utilising resources efficiently to invest in socio-economic development.

It is necessary to implement the national target programmes for the 2021-2030 period effectively to enhance its role as a nucleus city and drive the economic development of the province and the region, Ha said.

Lai Chau city needs to promote high-tech organic agriculture linked to product processing and consumption to create distinctive high-value commodities associated with building the brands for local OCOP (one commune one product) products.

Additionally, it should concentrate on comprehensive socio-cultural development, and thoroughly implement tasks related to Party and political system building, added Ha.

The city’s per capita income has increased from 5 million VND per year in 2004 to 62 million VND (2,450 USD) per year in 2024, while the poverty rate has decreased from 13.6% in 2004 to only 1.56% this year.

In the 2021-2024 period, the city's total retail sales of goods and services reach over 4.4 trillion VND a year./.
