Vientiane (VNA) - The Lao Ministry of Health announced on January 14 that the country had recorded 1,052 new cases of COVID-19 and four deaths over the past 24 hours.

The ministry's announcement stated that after a few days of maintaining the increase rate at the 3-digit level, the number of new cases in Laos returned to the 4-digit level, 247 cases higher than the figure on the previous day.

The capital city of Vientiane continues to lead the country with 400 cases, followed by Phongsaly province with 102 infections.

At present, the national tally of infections in Laos reaches 123,293, including 476 deaths.

The ministry urged people who have not been vaccinated or want to get a booster shot (third dose) to quickly go to designated hospitals and medical centres for vaccination.

By the end of January 13, the number of people who received the first jab in Laos reached 63.21 percent of its population, while 51.3 percent received the second shot./.
