Laos and Cambodia convened an extraordinary meeting in Vientiane on December 3 to settle issues relating to their joint border, Vientiane Times reported.

The function was meant to deal with the location of border markers that they could not reach a consensus in accordance with the agreed minutes of the 6th meeting of the countries’ Joint Boundary Commission.

Lao Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Laos-Cambodia Joint Boundary Commission Saleumxay Kommasith said Laos considers the peaceful and friendly settlement of border issues as one of the national priorities.

He added even though border affairs are sensitive issues and it takes time to complete border demarcation with patience and honesty, all problems can be overcome.

The first meeting of the countries’ Joint Boundary Commission took place in November 1995.-VNA
