Vientiane (VNA) – A funeral ceremony for the former Chairman of the National Assembly of Laos Saman Viyaket was held at That Luong square in the capital city of Vientiane on July 25.

Attended the ceremony were Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Volachith, Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, National Assembly Chairwoman Pany Yathotou, many incumbent and former Party and State officials, representatives from diplomat organisations and local people.

Saman Viyaket was a former Politburo member and former head of the Steering Committee for Ideology, Theory and Culture of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee. He had made significant contributions to national struggle for independence as well as the country’s protection and construction.

In his revolutionary life and career, Saman Viyaket also made great efforts to promote the Vietnam-Laos special solidarity.

On July 24, National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong and a high-ranking delegation from the Vietnamese Party and State paid tribute to the Lao former leader at the National Assembly Hall in Vientiane.

The NA Vice Chairwoman wrote in the funeral book that Viyaket’s death is a great loss of the Lao Party, State, and people as well as his family, while Vietnam has lost a close friend and comrade who made significant contributions to fostering the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.-VNA
