Laos to go on with railroad link to China

Laos will pursue its plan to build a seven-billion-USD high-speed railway line connecting its capital Vientiane with the Chinese Kunming city.
Laos will pursue its plan to build a seven-billion-USD high-speedrailway line connecting its capital Vientiane with the Chinese Kunmingcity.

Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavadmade the affirmation while fielding questions at the ongoing 9 thsitting of the Lao National Assembly, highlighting the the project’spositive impacts as the nation becomes part of the ASEAN Community atthe end of this year.

According to him, the417-km railroad has widely received approval from Chinese ministries andagencies except for the Finance Ministry and is expected to enhanceLaos’ global links at reduced costs.

Asplanned, the railroad will also connect with Thailand and be part of theregional Kunming-Singapore railroad, which has a total length of 3,000kilometres.-VNA
