It is necessary to form a supervisory framework and guidelines for the implementation of the Law on Persons with Disabilities and a project to support the disadvantaged group in healthcare, education, transport, judiciary and employment.
Participants at a seminar in Hanoi on December 17, organised by the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), also said the framework should fully reflect the sense of responsibility and performance of branches and agencies during the implementation of the law and the project as well.
The framework and guidelines will help supervise and assess the translation of the Law and the project into synchronous policies and solutions at ministries, branches and localities.
Vietnam now counts 6.7 million disabled people who make up over 7 percent of the country’s population.
The Government has made huge efforts to help the group improve their living standards and integrate into the community.
In 2007, Vietnam inked the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Three years later, the Law on Persons with Disabilities was promulgated. Last year, the Government approved a project to support disabled people during the 2012-2020 period.-VNA
