Domestic energy scientists and experts have received training in carbon management-related issues at a two-day seminar which closed on June 25 in Hanoi.

The event was organised by the Institute of Energy Science under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Australian Agency for International Development and the World Bank, with Andrew Wilson, an expert from Australia’s Queensland University as the lecturer.

Through theories and simulated exercises, participants got to know how to calculate levels of green house emission and marginalized costs to reduce the emission. They also gained more understanding about opportunities that carbon markets bring in and put forth initiatives to deal with impacts of climate change.

The seminar is among a string of activities to popularise carbon management knowledge among the country’s scientists and managers, said director of the Institute of Energy Science Doan Van Binh . Two more seminars on the same theme will be held in northern Hai Duong and central Thua Thien Hue provinces with domestic speakers.-VNA
