Luxembourg aids local climate change adaption

The Luxembourg Government will provide 8 million EUR (11 million USD) to help the central province of Thua Thien-Hue carry out a project on climate change adaptation from the end of 2013 through 2017.
The Luxembourg Government will provide 8 million EUR (11 million USD)to help the central province of Thua Thien-Hue carry out a project onclimate change adaptation from the end of 2013 through 2017.

The project, worth a total of 10 million EUR (13.7 million USD), helpsimprove State and community management capacity, and strengthen systemsand resources serving the locality’s socio-economic development andpoverty reduction, said Hoang Ngoc Khanh, Chief of the provincialPeople’s Committee Office.

The project will be implementedin communes lying along the coast and in and around lagoons in QuangDien, Phu Vang and Phu Loc districts in order to reduce the poverty ratein the poorest areas and ease impacts of climate change in the mostvenerable areas.

Since 1998, Luxembourg has granted aremarkable sum of non-refundable aid to the central province’s povertyreduction, health care, education and socio-economic developmentprogrammes.

There included a project providing equipment tothe Hue Central Hospital and Hue Medical University worth 1 million EUR,a 4.7 million EUR project on rural development in Quang Dien districtand the one on the establishment of a tourism school worth nearly 32billion VND.-VNA
