Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Transport held a ceremony to inaugurate the Trung Hoa and Thanh Xuan road tunnels, which cost a combined 1.64 trillion VND (73.1 million USD) on January 8.

Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hailed the efforts made by the main constructors: Civil Engineering Construction Coporation No.4 JSC (Cienco 4), and HANSHIN Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. from the Republic of Korea in completing the Trung Hoa project 7 months ahead of schedule.

The two projects are expected to contribute towards improved traffic flow from ring road 3 to the downtown district of Hanoi, he said.

CIENCO 4 Director General Nguyen Tuan Huynh said workers had been mobilised to work round-the-clock to ensure the construction’s completion before the Lunar New Year (Tet) in spite of the overlap between the Thanh Xuan project and the construction of Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway.

According to Director of the Ministry’s Thang Long Project Management Board Nguyen Xuan Hoa, the Trung Hoa project, cost a total of over 1 trillion VND (48.5 million USD) and is a component of the second phase of Hanoi’s third ring road linking Mai Dich to North Linh Dam.

It includes a 614 metre -long underpass and approach road, and nearly 2,600 metre-long collector roads on Thang Long avenue.

Meanwhile, the Thanh Xuan underpass project has a total investment exceeding 551 billion VND (24.6 million USD) sourced from the remaining capital of the Hanoi belt road No.3 project.
