Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on August 27 attended the 25th bilateral annual leaders’ consultation at Istana Nurul Iman and met with Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.
The Sultan witnessed the signing of several agreements, including those related to land border issues.
Speaking at a press conference, Prime Minister Anwar highlighted that the two countries agreed to enhance cooperation in tourism, education, investment, literature, technology, and defense.
Specifically, Malaysia plans to boost tourism collaboration and improve transport links between Brunei and Malaysia's Sabah and Sarawak states.
In education, the countries will initiate various programmes, including faculty and student exchanges, and explore joint research opportunities. Malaysia will support Brunei in higher education leadership training and improving educational institutions. Additionally, training programmes in energy transition, digital technology, and semiconductors will be developed.
Military cooperation will also be strengthened, including officer exchanges and joint training sessions.
In 2023, Brunei was Malaysia’s 30th largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching 9.31 billion MYR (2.13 billion USD)./.
