Mesmerizing hobby of keeping mini jellyfish

Keeping ornamental jellyfish is a unique business model that originates from the enjoyment of raising exotic pets, providing many people with an additional source of income. Raising ornamental jellyfish also offers relaxation and stress relief, especially for young people.

The owner of these mesmerizing jellyfish is Bui Ngo Quyen, a 26-year-old man in Hanoi.

In 2019, during a visit to China, he noticed many stalls selling ornamental jellyfish outside a fair. Upon learning that jellyfish keeping was a new hobby in China, Quyen found it fascinating and novel. After returning to Vietnam, he researched ornamental jellyfish online and decided to import jellyfish from China and Japan later that year.

Ornamental jellyfish range in size from 2cm to 15cm, with some reaching up to 1 meter and are kept in specialized tanks. Jellyfish lack brains, consist mostly of water, and have a lifespan of 2 to 3 years. These ornamental jellyfish are saltwater species and are artificially bred. They are created by taking jellyfish eggs from the ocean and genetically modifying them so they do not grow larger or sting like their natural counterparts.

The most crucial factors in raising jellyfish are temperature, food, and water quality. The temperature should be maintained between 20-30 degrees Celcious to suit the jellyfish's living and development environment.

While keeping ornamental jellyfish is not overly complex, players must use specialized tanks with water filtration and circulation systems to ensure the jellyfish thrive.

As more people are drawn to the hobby, the most commonly sold jellyfish are priced between 2.5 and 12.5 USD.

Quyen is eager to share his experience and passion for this hobby with others, hoping to spread the practice of keeping ornamental jellyfish throughout the country./.
