Military medical units qualified to perform coronavirus testing

The Ministry of National Defence’s military medical department on March 19 provided training on novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) testing for health workers of military medical units as the virus continues to spread widely in Vietnam.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of National Defence’smilitary medical department on March 19 provided training on novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) testing for health workers of military medical units as the viruscontinues to spread widely in Vietnam.

Health workers from the country’s major military medicalunits, including 108 Military Central Hospital, 103 Military Hospital, MilitaryInstitute of Preventive Medicine and Vietnam – Russia Tropical Centre (Hanoi),175 Military Hospital, Military Centre of Preventive Medicine in the South (HoChi Minh City) received training on how to properly conduct coronavirus testing.

They were instructed on how to safely collect and handlehuman specimens for testing; to correctly perform testing for SARS-CoV-2 using Real-time PCR technology; and to analyse the results.

The department’s deputy chief Colonel Nguyen Huu My said theMinistry of Health has authorized a selected number of military medical unitsto perform testing for the novel coronavirus in order to keep up with thegrowing number of suspected cases across the country.

The training course is important as it allows the medicalstaff to early and correctly confirm whether a person carries the virus, hesaid.

After the course, these military facilities are qualified to conduct the coronavirus testing, alongside dozens of hospitals andmedical institutes nationwide, such as Bach Mai Hospital; National Hospital ofPeadiatrics; Hanoi Centre for Disease Control; National Hospital of TropicalDiseases; National Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology;Pasteur Institutes in HCM City and Nha Trang; Hospital of Tropical Diseases inHCM City; Cho Ray Hospital; and Hue Central Hospital; among others.

As of March 19 morning, Vietnam had confirmed 76 COVID-19 cases./.

Ho Chi Minh City digitises 99.4% of hospital records

As of July 2026, 163 of the city's 164 hospitals, or 99.4%, adopted electronic medical records, the report said. About 64% of public hospitals and 65% of private hospitals now run the technology across their entire operations

Ho Chi Minh City eyes more foreign medical tourists

Director of the municipal Department of Health Tang Chi Thuong said a key prerequisite for attracting foreign patients is a strategy to develop centres of medical excellence. He proposed selecting hospitals and specialties with strong expertise for investment towards international standards, particularly in competitive fields such as cardiology, oncology, robotic surgery, assisted reproduction, paediatrics, dentistry, cosmetic medicine, specialised health check-ups, traditional medicine and rehabilitation.

Health cooperation adds fresh momentum to Vietnam-US relations

Through this MOU, the US Department of State, working with Congress, plans to provide 98.75 million USD in life-saving global health assistance over the next five years, including 21.385 million USD in dedicated Global Health Security funding, to support Vietnam’s transition to full country ownership of its HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis programmes while strengthening its capacity to detect and respond to emerging and re-emerging infectious disease threats.

Vietnam, US launch five-year health cooperation

The cooperation will also support Vietnam in strengthening its healthcare capacity and gradually enhancing self-reliance in HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis prevention and control programmes, as well as in responding to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
