Ministry implements project to develop cities in response to climate change

The Ministry of Construction is conducting a project on developing Vietnam’s cities in response to climate change for 2021-2030 toward a goal of sustainable development and risk mitigation.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Construction isconducting a project on developing Vietnam’s cities in response to climatechange for 2021-2030 toward a goal of sustainable development and riskmitigation.

The project consists of six programmes, including those on buildinga database and urban risk-warning map system; and on perfecting the regulationsand standards of the construction industry and urban areas responding tonatural disasters in the context of climate change and sea level rise.

It is set to integrate climate change content intoregional, provincial and urban planning works; and to develop plans andtechnical manuals serving climate change response.

In addition, it will work with international organisationsto implement pilot programmes and projects to apply new works, technologies andmaterials in order to develop green growth, smart cities, green architecture adaptingto climate change.

Under the project, a national plan for climate changeadaptation for the 2021-2025 period, with a vision to 2050, will be implemented.

The five centrally run cities prioritised for running theproject are Hanoi and Hai Phong in the north, Da Nang in the central region,Can Tho in the Mekong Delta, and Ho Chi Minh City in the south./.

Storm brings heavy rains to northern Vietnam

Storm Narra, the fourth to hit the East Sea this year, brought strong winds and heavy rains to northern Vietnam on early August 22, with some areas forecast to receive more than 500mm of rain as the storm moves slowly over the northern waters of the East Sea.

The project is being implemented in the former Hoa Binh city, now Hoa Binh ward. It has a total investment of 688.7 billion VND (26.38 million USD), including 507.3 billion VND in ODA and 181.4 billion VND in counterpart funding. Major components include a wastewater treatment plant, pumping stations, a collection network, and connection infrastructure.

Bac Ninh earmarks over 1.7 billion USD for environmental protection

Government adopts action programme on environmental protection, climate resilience

The programme aims to translate the Party's orientations into concrete actions while strengthening environmental governance, enhancing climate resilience, and promoting a green, circular and low-carbon economy. It will serve as the basis for ministries, sectors and localities to formulate implementation plans for the 2026–2030 period, with a vision to 2045.
