Agriculture targets 74 billion USD in exports in 2026

Despite numerous difficulties in 2025, Vietnam’s agricultural sector closed the year with export earnings of 70.9 billion USD, laying an optimistic foundation for a 74 billion USD export target in 2026. The information was announced at the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment’s first regular press briefing of the year, held in Hanoi on January 6.

Government pushes stronger data integration to tighten IUU fishing controls

According to the MAE, as of November 15, a total of 79,360 fishing vessels nationwide had been registered and updated in the national fisheries database (VNFishbase), reaching 100%. The number of licensed vessels stands at 76,811. Vessels found ineligible for operation have been placed under local supervision, with commune- and ward-level authorities assigned to manage their mooring.

Coffee exports likely to exceed 8 billion USD this year

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment reported that Vietnam sold 1.3 million tonnes of coffee overseas for 7.41 billion USD between January and October, up 61.8% year-on-year and marking the highest annual value increase to date. The average export price reached 5,653 USD per tonne, a surge of 42.5% from the same period last year. Several markets posted outstanding growth, particularly Mexico, where export value jumped by 34.7 times.

Agricultural sector to cut at least 15% greenhouse gas emissions by 2035

The project on low-emission crop production for the period for 2025-2035, with a vision extending to 2050, focuses on high-emission crops such as rice, cassava, sugarcane, coffee, and bananas. It aims to pilot at least 15 farming models nationwide that are ready for carbon credits and meet international standards.
