Lieutenant General Dao Duy Minh, deputy head of the General Department of Politics at the Vietnam People’s Army, made the announcement at a press briefing in Hanoi on October 10.
The meeting will review achievements and shortcomings as well as look at ways of searching for more remains in both countries in the future.
So far, the remains of 15,989 Vietnamese soldiers have been repatriated from Laos since 1994 and another 14,549 sets of remains from Cambodia since 2001.
At present, it is estimated that the remains of over 6,000 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers are still scattered across Laos and Cambodia . Vietnam is making every effort to find and repatriate these remains by 2015./.
