The information and communications sector will increase the management of internet agents, online games, pre-paid mobile subscriptions and spam messages.

Minister of Information and Communications Le Doan Hop issued the directive on July 5 during a teleconference to review the last six months and outline operations for the six remaining months of this year.

Apart from coming up with measures and the legislation to implement the laws on post, telecommunications and radio frequencies, the sector will continue applying information technology and e-government from central to grassroots levels and to draw up plans for local radio and television channels and the printed press.

Revenues from the post and telecommunications reached about 87 trillion VND in the first six months of 2010, a year-on-year increase 45 percent. The number of telephone subscribers has also increased to 151.1 million, with mobile subscribers accounting for 89.8 percent, according to the Ministry’s statistics.

There are now more than 24.27 million internet users in the country, 28.29 percent of the country’s population. Telephone companies Vinaphone, Mobifone, Viettel and EVN Telecoms have also increased their investment in networks and services as previously pledged.

In regard to the press, and publishing operations, the ministry said, they focus on the country’s political issues natural disasters and the control of diseases, as well as seven of the government’s key measures to curb inflation and gear up socio-economic development.

The meeting also discussed issues relating to the state management of different localities, the lack of consensus between telecommunications firms during their operations when using the common infrastructure and the overlapping of functions between ministries and agencies in several areas including advertising and intellectual property rights./.
