More than 2 million doses of Moderna vaccine arrived in Vietnam

These vaccines were provided by the US Government through the COVAX Facility and are among the 80 million doses of vaccines that US President Joe Biden has committed to providing for the world.

On the morning of July 10, a plane carrying 2,000,040 doses of Moderna vaccine landed at Noi Bai airport.

These vaccines were provided by the US Government through the COVAX Facility and are among the 80 million doses of vaccines that US President Joe Biden has committed to providing for the world.

Of those, approximately 41 million doses will be distributed through the COVAX Facility.

In addition to Moderna, Vietnam has received 2,493,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine through the COVAX Facility.

The COVAX Facility is a mechanism co-initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI), with UNICEF as a partner in charge of implementation.

Through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the United States has contributed $2 billion to GAVI to support the procurement and transportation of COVID-19 vaccines to 92 low- and middle-income countries.

With expected additional funding of $2 billion by 2022, the US will become the largest donor to the COVAX Facility.

Contributing to the COVAX Facility is helping to ensure access to COVID-19 vaccines for the world's most vulnerable populations, including frontline healthcare workers.

In Vietnam, besides donating vaccines, the US has supported more than 17.7 million USD for the COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control activities since the early days./.
