Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last night by the Vietnam News Agency.

- The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee wrapped up its 35th session in Hanoi on July 11 after one and a half days of sitting, fulfilling its set agenda.

Closing the session, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man said the committee considered and approved three resolutions on the organisational structure of military procuracy agencies; and two others on supplements to the regular State budget expenditure estimates for 2024 of the ministries of national defence and public security, and adjustments to the mid-term public investment plans funded by the central budget in the 2021-2025 period of ministries, central agencies and localities. - Vietnamese President To Lam and Chairman of the Lao National Assembly Saysomphone Phomvihane on July 11 reaffirmed the importance and the highest priority they give to consolidating and enhancing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

At their meeting in Vientiane as part of Lam’s ongoing state visit, the leaders affirmed that the relationship is an invaluable asset, and a vital factor for each country's revolutionary cause. Read full story

- President To Lam on July 11 visited Star Telecom (Unitel), a joint venture between Vietnam's Viettel Global JSC and Lao Asia Telecom, as part of his ongoing state visit to Laos.

The Vietnamese State leader hailed efforts and business results of Star Telecom, saying its services have covered even the most remote areas of Laos, significantly contributing to local socio-economic development over the past 15 years. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosted a reception in Hanoi on July 11 for Chinese Ambassador Xiong Bo who came to say goodbye at the end of his tenure.

- In foreign investors' eyes, Vietnam remains an important investment destination in the medium and long terms amidst the ongoing global supply chain restructuring, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).

The global economy is forecast to recover weakly and face numerous significant risks and challenges in 2024 due to complex developments in the post COVID-19 pandemic. Geo-political instability and the continued competition among major countries is anticipated to leave impacts on the global economy in the medium and long terms. Read full story

- The Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore has advised Vietnamese exporters to carefully study and keep updated on new regulations in Singapore, a market that is becoming more cautious in trade policy, in order to further exploit this market.

A representative from the office said that recently, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has revised the Qualified Person (QP) declaration form for export consignments of food products, which has been applicable since July 1. Read full story

- The Malaysian Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) on July 11 announced that the country has secured potential exports worth 3.3 billion RM (about 717 million USD) to Vietnam.

- Nearly 8,000 runners will be racing in the first ever VNExpress Marathon Da Nang Midnight, starting at 2am on July 14, organisers said on July 11.

Modern criminal justice system proposed under revised Criminal Procedure Code

The revised code proposes more progressive procedural rules to enhance adversarial proceedings, tighten power oversight and better protect human and citizens' rights. It will retain effective existing provisions, amend or repeal outdated regulations, and introduce new procedures to expedite case handling, reduce procedural costs and improve efficiency while ensuring fairness, objectivity and greater protection of the lawful rights and interests of organisations and individuals. It also aims to modernise criminal proceedings through the wider application of digital technologies and closer alignment with international practices.

Vietnam, Laos strengthen cooperation on overseas community affairs

The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in overseas Vietnamese and overseas Lao affairs for the 2026–2030 period, providing a framework for future collaboration. Laos will send a delegation to Vietnam to study preparations for the World Conference of Overseas Vietnamese, scheduled for December 2026.
