– Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong held high-level phone talks with US President Joe Biden on March 29 night (Vietnam time).
The two leaders expressed their delight at the talks that offer them an opportunity to exchange views on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership. They spoke highly of the positive and comprehensive development of the bilateral relationship over the past time, and agreed to promote, develop and deepen it, for interests of both nations, as well as peace, cooperation and development. – President Vo Van Thuong on March 29 commended Hanoi’s efforts in implementing the national defence strategy in the new situation while addressing a conference reviewing the 10-year implementation of the resolution adopted at the 8th plenum of the 11th Party Central Committee on the strategy.
Thuong, who is also head of the steering committee for the building of the project reviewing the implementation of the strategy, said Hanoi has maintained political security, social order and safety, ensuring the absolute safety for major political events of the Party and the State. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Vietnam Mohammed Ismaeil A. Dahlwy in Hanoi on March 29, highly valuing his guest’s activeness in helping strengthen friendship and cooperation.
The PM expressed his belief that the ambassador will contribute to improved bilateral relations, adding that the Vietnamese Government will order relevant agencies to coordinate with and assist the diplomat to fulfil his duties. Read full story

– Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue lauded achievements recorded by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), especially those in digital transformation, at a working session with the ministry in Hanoi on March 29.
Digital transformation will also be discussed at one of the three sessions of the ninth Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Forum of Young Parliamentarians, scheduled for September in Hanoi, which will see the participation of MIC, Hue said. Read full story

– A regional workshop opened in Hanoi on March 29 to share regional experience and global progress in overcoming the consequence of bombs and mines for peace and sustainable development.
Co-hosted by the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the two-day event draws about 100 delegates, including representatives from the Vietnam National Mine Action Centre, ministries, agencies, localities and mine action agencies from Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. – Vietnam ran a trade surplus of 4.07 billion USD in the first quarter this year, with 79.17 billion USD in export revenue and 75.1 billion USD in imports, down 11.9% and 14.7% annually, respectively, reported the General Statistics Office on March 29.
Of the export revenue, 19.26 billion USD was contributed by the domestic economic sector and the remaining from the foreign-invested sector, marking a respective annual decrease of 17.4% and 10%. Read full story./.
