- Vietnam has emerged as one of Malaysia’sclosest partners over the years, both economically and socially, MalaysianAmbassador to Vietnam Dato Tan Yang Thai has said.

In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agencyon the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam - Malaysia diplomaticties (March 30, 1973 - March 30, 2023), the diplomat also said the twocountries entered into a strategic partnership in 2015, adding thatimplementing the Plan of Action (POA) for the 2021-2025 period, both countriesare further strengthening bilateral relations and have reaped tremendousbenefits. Read full story

– Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Sonreceived the visiting Secretary of the Communist Party of China Committee ofChina’s Yunnan province, Wang Ning, in Hanoi on March 28.

Both host and guest highly valued the progress inthe Vietnam - China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, especiallyin politics, economy, trade, and investment, saying the official visit to Chinaby General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong inOctober 2022 was an important milestone opening up a new development period forrelations between the two Parties and the two countries. Read full story

– Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen HongDien discussed measures to promote economic and trade ties between Vietnam andChina’s Yunnan province, while meeting with Secretary of the Yunnan PartyCommittee Wang Ning in Hanoi.

Dien said Yunnan province holds an important rolein economic and trade ties as it has a large market and diverse goods demandwhile serving as a crucial gateway for Vietnamese products to enter thesouthwest of China. Read full story

– Four Japanese banks - the Japan Bank for InternationalCooperation (JBIC), Mizuho Bank, Joyo Bank, and Shiga Bank - will co-finance atotal of 300 million USD in credit lines to power producers using renewableenergy in Vietnam to help the growing Southeast Asian country decarbonize,according to the Nikkei Asia.

The banks will provide funds through the Joint Stock CommercialBank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) which will in turn providesubleasing loans, mainly to local businesses. Read full story

– Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea (RoK)Han Duck-soo hosted a reception in Seoul on March 29 for Vietnamese Minister ofNational Defence Gen. Phan Van Giang who is on an official visit to the RoK atan invitation of his Korean counterpart Lee Jong-sup.

Han said the visit holds special significance asthe two countries just upgraded their relations to a Comprehensive StrategicPartnership last December. Read full story

– Vietnam’s gross domestic product (GDP) hasgrown about 3.32% year on year in the first quarter of 2023, according to theGeneral Statistics Office (GSO).

The expansion is only higher than the 3.21%recorded in Q1 of 2020 during the 2011 - 2023 period, the GSO told a pressconference on March 29. Read full story

Top leader’s visits opening new phase of deeper, more effective ties with India, Sri Lanka: FM

Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung described the visits as particularly important and historic, taking place at a meaningful moment as Vietnam and India mark the 10th anniversary of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and just one month after the top leader of Vietnam assumed his new position. For Sri Lanka, this was the highest-level visit by a Vietnamese leader since the two countries established diplomatic relations.

Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang said that the Vietnamese delegation made important contributions to the summit’s success, reflecting the foreign policy orientation set out by the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which continues to place ASEAN at the centre of Vietnam’s regional engagement, as well as its commitment to proactive, positive and responsible contributions to ASEAN Community-building process.

Top leader of Vietnam stresses parliamentary ties' importance to relations with Sri Lanka

Highlighting the important role of parliamentary cooperation, the Party and State leader of Vietnam expressed his wish for the two legislatures to strengthen coordination, soon sign a cooperation agreement, and work together to effectively supervise the implementation of the high-level agreements and signed cooperation documents, especially economic cooperation initiatives aimed at achieving 1 billion USD in bilateral trade turnover.
