- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on May 30 visited educational institutions fordisadvantaged children in Hanoi on the occasion of International Children’s Day(June 1) and Action Month for Children.

At the SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, established in 1994 with its constructionfunded by the SOS Children’s Village, Chinh presented gifts to the school andits outstanding students. Read full story

- The national steering committee for green growth should work out specificsolutions to realise green growth targets based on the country’s socio-economicconditions, Deputy Prime Minister and head of the committee Tran Hong Ha saidat the committee’s first meeting on May 30.

- An international workshop held in Hanoi on May 30 stressed the crucial roleof female police officers in UN peacekeeping operations as well as theimportance of promoting diversity in conflict settlement and post-conflictpeace building.

The event was organised by the People’s Security Academy and the UN Entity forGender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) with support from theCanadian Government. It was part of a regional project named “Empowering Womenfor Sustainable Peace: Preventing Violence and Promoting SocialCohesion in ASEAN” funded by the Canadian and Republic of Koreangovernments. - The Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City will hold a range ofcultural exchange, and trade, investment and tourism promotion programmes in2023, aiming to foster the ties between India and Vietnam, said Indian ConsulGeneral Madan Mohan Sethi at a press briefing in the city on May 30.

The diplomat said that last year, the two sides jointly organised manyactivities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relationsbetween the two countries. To further promote the India-Vietnam ties in generaland the relations between India and southern localities of Vietnam inparticular, the Indian Consulate General in HCM City has planned many otheractivities to strengthen connections between the two communities, he said. - The Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) in Ho Chi Minh City and Cadence DesignSystems, a multinational computational software company of the US, on May 30signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in developing electronicdesign manpower and promoting the semiconductor industry in Vietnam.

- To prepare for the organisation of the 2024 Asian futsal qualifiers, theAsian Football Confederation (AFC) has conducted seed grouping as well asannounced the draw rules for the 31 participating teams, including Vietnam.

Modern criminal justice system proposed under revised Criminal Procedure Code

The revised code proposes more progressive procedural rules to enhance adversarial proceedings, tighten power oversight and better protect human and citizens' rights. It will retain effective existing provisions, amend or repeal outdated regulations, and introduce new procedures to expedite case handling, reduce procedural costs and improve efficiency while ensuring fairness, objectivity and greater protection of the lawful rights and interests of organisations and individuals. It also aims to modernise criminal proceedings through the wider application of digital technologies and closer alignment with international practices.

Vietnamese community in Thailand urged to strengthen friendship bridge

Vietnam, Laos strengthen cooperation on overseas community affairs

The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in overseas Vietnamese and overseas Lao affairs for the 2026–2030 period, providing a framework for future collaboration. Laos will send a delegation to Vietnam to study preparations for the World Conference of Overseas Vietnamese, scheduled for December 2026.
