Museum to commemorate Tham Luang rescue mission to be built

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation of Thailand (DNP) is to build a museum in front of the Tham Luang cave to mark the rescue of members of the local Wild Boar football team.

Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - TheDepartment of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation of Thailand (DNP)is to build a museum in front of the Tham Luang cave to mark the rescue ofmembers of the local Wild Boar football team.

DNP Director-General Thanya Netithammakunand a group of Chiang Rai artists led by renowned national artist, ChalermchaiKositpipat, have attended a religious ceremony to ask the holy spirits at thecave for forgiveness and permission to construct a museum.

The football team, which consists of 12boys and their coach, was exploring the cave on June 23, but became trapped byrising flood waters within. All of them were successfully brought out on July11 by a team of seasoned Thai and foreign divers.

A statue of Navy Petty Officer 1st ClassSaman Kunan or ‘Ja Sam’ who lost his life during the mission will be erected infront of the museum to honor his bravery.

The museum will display photos of the rescue mission and paintings related tothe event. The construction will be completed in five months.-NNT/VNA
