- Eleven people were injured as a plane slid off a runway while landing at Yangon airport in Myanmar on May 8, according to local police.

Images on Facebook showed a crumpled Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane lying on the grass at the side of the runway.

A police officer at the airport said a pilot, an airhostess and nine passengers were slightly injured, adding that the plane slid from the runway as it landed at 7:20 pm (Vietnam time).

The incident happened near Terminal 3, he said, adding that the nose and both wings were damaged.

According to Myanmar Times, the Bombardier Dash-8/400 aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, which carried 30 passengers and 6 crew, skidded and overran the runway on landing at Yangon International Airport in heavy rain and poor visibility.

Although the accident has not been confirmed, Yangon airport informed that heavy rain made the airport temporarily stop operation.  Flights to Yangon then had to divert to Naypyitaw.

According to the latest information, passengers on the plane come from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Canada, China, India, France and Switzerland.-VNA
