Hanoi (VNA) – The Myanmar News Agency reported on July 3 that Myanmar’s Union Election Commission (UEC) has drafted a 2019-2022 strategic plan for the 2020 general election.

The move aims to seek suggestions from civil service organisations (CSO) and political parties as well as cooperation with them in the electoral process for the general election in the Southeast Asian country.

Speaking at a meeting with the CSOs and political parties in Nay Pyi Taw on July 2, UEC Chairman U Hla Thein said the draft strategic plan has 11 chapters, focusing on the strong and weak points, advantages and challenges of the previous elections.

U Hla Thein urged the CSOs to play an active role in the electoral process and cooperate in compiling voting list and voting education, promoting inclusiveness as well as monitoring the election.

For the last general election in 2015, the UEC drew up the 2013-2018 strategic plan.

In the November 2015 general election, the National League for Democracy led by Aung San Suu Kyi won an absolute majority of the parliamentary seats.-VNA
